Lisa Sloan

Volunteer since June 2010

I think the students are surprised when they find they enjoy the program.

When Lisa’s high school daughter became a tutor with Children’s Literacy Center, Lisa trained to be a substitute for her. She became a quick and avid convert and has now tutored for CLC for eight years.

Barb Masciarelli, the site coordinator at Barnes & Noble where Lisa tutors, has this to say about her, “Lisa finds ways to bring the outside world into her tutoring sessions. She connects with students because she is youthful, positive, energetic, and compassionate.”

Lisa has enjoyed watching students succeed in the Peak Reader program, as well as in school, while developing a love for reading. She says, “I think the students are surprised when they find they enjoy the program.  I love hearing them say that the program really helps them with reading. I have a lot of fun working with the kids.”

In her spare time, Lisa is very involved with the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival, declaring that “It is the best film festival around!” She also enjoys reading, trail running, skiing, biking and spending time with her husband, daughters, and friends.
